ABC/Randy HolmesThe Who‘s Pete Townshend published an autobiography called Who I Am in 2012, and now his band mate Roger Daltrey is getting ready to release a memoir of his own.

The book — which will look at the Who frontman’s solo career, as well as the five decades he’s spent with the legendary British rock group — is scheduled to hit stores in the fall of 2018.

Daltrey was a sheet metal worker when he founded the group that would become The Who in 1961, eventually recruiting bassist John Entwistle, guitarist Townshend and drummer Keith Moon to round out the lineup.  Daltrey’s powerful voice and charismatic stage presence, coupled with the band’s dynamic live shows, made the The Who one of rock’s biggest acts.

“I’ve always resisted the urge to ‘do the memoir’ but now, finally, I feel I’ve enough perspective,” Daltrey says in a statement. “When you’ve spent more than half a century at the epicenter of a band like The Who, perspective can be a problem. Everything happened in the moment. One minute, I’m on the factory floor in Shepherd’s Bush, the next, I’m headlining Woodstock.”

The 73-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer reveals, “It’s taken three years to unpick the events of my life, to remember who did what when and why, to separate the myths from the reality…I hope the result is more than just another autobiography.”

He adds, “I’ve witnessed society, music and culture change beyond recognition. That I’m still here to tell my tale when so many others around me didn’t make it is nothing short of a miracle.”

The as-yet-untitled book will be published by Henry Holt and Co. in North America.
